Spring Update from Matthew Mintz

Thanks Alex for prompting us to write.
My youngest daughter Natalie just turned 5 (photo below). Hard to believe our baby is going to kindergarten in the fall. We had a pirate and princess party. All the kids dressed up and there was a group that came and did a play involving all the kids. We did this at the community center that had a stage, so it worked out great.

From 2009-03 (Mar)-08

Work is busy as usual. However, it is always a nice break when Alex comes into DC and we have a chance to have a bite. We just had "Match Day" at our school, which is always exciting. All our senior students open up their envelopes at the same time and find out where they are going to be for the next 3-7 years of their lives.

The other thing that was somewhat exciting was being on the local news. I have done this a few times. Health care tends to be big in both the national and local news. Whenever they want a story, they usually go to the universities to get an "expert" opinion. If it's something to do about heart attacks, they ask one of our cardiologists. If it's something about brain surgery, they ask one of our neurosurgeons. When they are not really sure who to ask, they usually ask me.

The most recent piece was on electronic cigarettes. These are products made in China that are being touted as safe alternatives to smoking, but they are likely are not safe at all. What's even more scary is that they are being sold in the US, and the FDA hasn't really taken action.
I have posted the video below. For more info you can see my comments on my blog post Electronic Cigarettes
